Today's reading was Genesis 25:27-28:5 this brings us to the children of Isaac and Rebekah - Esau and Jacob. In this Isaac is nearing death and asks his oldest and favorite son Esau to go hunting and prepare him his favorite feast so Isaac can bless his son prior to his death. Isaac's wife Rebekah overhears his conversation with Esau and she instructs Jacob to trick his father for his blessing. Jacob has already in a way tricked his brother for his birthright. Esau returns after Jacob had already been blessed by Isaac. Esau in turn wants to kill his brother due to the blessing and birthright. Rebekah hears this and convinces Isaac to send Jacob away to her hometown for a wife from her family and she instructs Jacob not to return until his brother has decided not to kill him.
It is interesting how much deceit is occurring among these families.
